Spirit Week - Dress Like an Athlete Day

Parents and Kids Having Fun on Globe Day

Dear Parents,

Today was wonderful!  Great weather, accommodating parents, enthusiastic girls....the first step in globe-making is over!  Even better, the globes survived recess.  One year we had a little incident...it seems the first graders needed a kickball.  Anyway, all is good!

As you know, Conference Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9.  Most of the slots are for that day, but there are also several other days available.  You can sign up on this link.

I will be sending more information about Conference Day, but I thought you would like the schedule now.

Thank you again for today!

Sincerely,

Pam

Globe Day Materials

Just an FYI.  We are in the midst of Spirit Week.  I hear lots of excitement over Wednesday when the girls can dress like an athlete!  How much fun will that be?

The girls have a hard copy of the Globe Assignment for Thursday, and I have demonstrated how to tear the newspaper.  Given all that is going on this week, I thought you might appreciate having this on the blog!

Globe Assignment

Date of Activity:    Thursday, September 27

Where:  Playground greentop

Time:  Morning    8:30

Materials:

Newspapers
Plastic cool whip type bowl --large size
paper grocery bags

Directions:

Tear black and white newsprint into 1” wide strips, starting at the crease of the newspaper.
Half a bag is probably enough

Tear comic strip(colored section) in 1”wide strips the same way
Put into another grocery bag, so that the colored is separated from the black and white.

******No slick paper, or the glue won’t stick.

Bring on Thursday.

Globe Day

******************************************************************************
Dear Parents,

Did you know that Globe-Making Day is a long-standing tradition of the fourth grade?  Well, it certainly is, and globes that are, by now, heirlooms probably hang in a place of honor on ceilings across the city, so don’t miss this once-in-a lifetime opportunity to participate in this great tradition!   Don your jeans, grab your coffee cup and join us next Thursday, September 27, at 8:30, on the green-top to assist your daughter in making her papier mache globe!

Should it dare to rain on Thursday, the rain date will be on Friday,
September 28, at 9:20.

See you soon,

Pam, Judy, Ginger, Sloan

Directions will be given to the girls on a hard copy.

Polygons, polygons, and more polygons

Geometry is our first unit of study!  It's a lot of fun when eighteen girls have made a fabulous, hundred-sided geometric figure.  Check this out!

Swimming Class 2012

                                                                                                September 6, 2012

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, September 11, your daughter will begin the swimming unit of her Physical Education class.  The classes will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through September 21.  If there is a deviation from the schedule, the girls will be notified.
Swimming is a wonderful fall activity; however, there are a few pointers to remember.  Your daughter should come to school wearing a one-piece swimsuit under her school clothes.  She should bring a swimming bag in which she stores her underwear (in a plastic, Ziploc bag, please), towel, swim cap, goggles, hairbrush, and a healthy snack, as well as anything else she may need. This next item may not apply because of the current warm weather, but tights are a troublesome piece of clothing to put on after being in the pool, so it is recommended that they not be worn on swimming days.
This year the girls will swim from 8:30-9:15, so they will come to school as usual.  We are looking forward to a wonderful two weeks of swimming!

Sincerely,

Pam Roberts

Welcome Fourthies and Fourthie Parents

Well, here we are... ready to embark on a new year and a new adventure of learning!  We have our very own blog to keep you up-to-date on prime Fourthie happenings.  Girls, you will have access to wonderful websites which will not only sharpen your skills, but also will help you to have fun while learning.  Stay tuned!  Eventually, you will have your own blog, but first we have to get organized and learn the rules of blogging.  Oh, also, did I mention pictures and videos?  This is the spot for that also...if the cyberspace gods allow us to avoid glitches, but that's another day.

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday between 10:00 and 11:00, and Wednesday is the first day of school!
